A Modern Hub Connecting Napa with the Greater Bay Area

Soscol Gateway Transit Center*, a connection between Napa and the greater Bay Area, is situated in downtown Napa serving the greater Napa Valley community. The Center acts as a bridge between the multimodal transportation of trains, buses and cars.  The lower level of the building houses the public spaces, such as ticketing, restrooms and the board/meeting room. The upper level houses the Napa County Transportation Planning Agency offices, parallel and overlooking the Napa River.  The project was completed in early 2013 for a construction budget of $4.85 million.

Project Outcomes
Kappe Architects
+ The building form and aesthetics echo the historical industries and vernacular buildings in the Soscol Gateway/East Napa area
Kappe Architects
+ The shed forms and exposed wood glu-lam beams draw from utilitarian designs of the earlier barn structures of the industrial and residential buildings
Kappe Architects
+ The large shed roof slopes to the south and incorporates solar photovoltaic panels for renewable energy, while the small shed roof slopes north matching the residential scale
Kappe Architects
+ The facade of the building is clad with corrugated metal for durability and low maintenance.  The colors of the metal siding evoke the memory of the historical industries of wine, wool, lumber and leather
x
+ The large storefront windows and the interior space clerestories, with clear and translucent glazing, bring in natural light, ventilation and provide open views to the surroundings
Kappe Architects
+ The building is the first public building to meet the new Napa County Green Building Ordinance standards, consistent with LEED standards
